KENTUCKY

Kentucky, a tobacco with broad, substantial leaves, is used not only to make the Tuscan cigars for which Italy has a long tradition, but also to complement Virginia in pipe blends, bringing a characteristically savoury, smoky and woody quality that tempers and enriches the sweet notes. It is also used to add body to the blend, as in Black Cavendish and English Mixtures.

The Tuscan Cigar came about by chance, due to spontaneous fermentation caused by a flood that struck the factory in Florence. The tobacco, which had previously been soaked, began to ferment with the arrival of the summer heat, releasing a strong smell of ammonia. However, the factory manager, terrified at the thought that Grand Duke Ferdinand III would never forgive him, decided not to throw it into the Arno but to use it as cigar filler. It was a great success. It was August 1815.

But apart from the fermentation, which led to it being chosen as the prince of cigar preparation, the key factor is the heat treatment that defines it as ‘fire-cured’. In fact, after harvesting, the leaves are hung in rooms where a fire is lit on the floor, and in this way they are dried. The wood used is crucial in defining the leaf’s organoleptic characteristics. It takes around 20 days to complete the drying process and see its colour transform from green to the characteristic dark brown.

And it is from this leaf, of Italian origin, that our Kentucky is extracted, using a technique that preserves its nuances and is able to reproduce its flavour with absolute fidelity. In this case, a flavour that encapsulates a small part of Italian history relating to cigar production.

The Kentucky used in this extract is of the fire-cured type, the classification of which is regulated in Europe by the EXPLANATORY NOTES TO THE COMBINED NOMENCLATURE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION (2015/C 076/01) of 4 March 2015

“‘Fire-cured’ tobacco: tobacco that has been dried with hot air under artificial atmospheric conditions using a wood fire, from which the tobacco has partially absorbed the smoke. The leaves of ‘fire-cured’ tobacco are thicker than those of Burley, ‘flue-cured’ or Maryland tobacco of the same height. Colours generally range from yellowish brown to very dark brown. Other colours and colour combinations often result from varying degrees of ripeness or from cultivation or curing techniques”

The SOLO range

The aroma is produced using the finest tobacco leaves through specific extraction and purification processes engineered in the Blendfeel Lab. This technology ensures they can be used sustainably in pods and the most advanced refillable systems.

Format: X60 (10+50 with nicotine)

10 ml tobacco-extracted flavouring in a PG base containing 18 mg/ml nicotine, to be diluted with 50 ml of base. It cannot be used as is; add 50 ml of neutral base, with or without nicotine, to obtain a finished 60 ml e-liquid with a nicotine strength ranging from a minimum of 3 mg/ml up to a maximum of 19.7 mg/ml. 

The X60 format gives you maximum flexibility in choosing the final nicotine concentration, unlike the 20+40 flavours which allow a maximum nicotine level of 13 mg/ml.

The pack contains:

• 1 x 10 ml flavouring already containing 18 mg/ml nicotine
• 1 x empty 60 ml bottle with label, suitable for mixing
